Following the completion of the new Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, attention turned to the streets, sidewalks and pathways that cruise liner guests would be walking on, to reach the CBD. It was time for a refresh and revitalization, to create a pleasing ‘welcome path’ for visitors to the city and locals alike.
Cairns Landscaping Contractors were pleased to complete this work, under contract for Cairns Regional Council. The scope of our work included streetscape paving and the design and installation of coloured, textured concrete pathways, to assorted areas from the Cairns Convention Centre, Wharf Street and casino.
To maximise time and cost efficiencies, we liaised closely with assorted council departments throughout the project, working in with the curbing and road sealing work schedule, which was being completed at the same time.
As well as taking the aesthetics into consideration, during design and installation, we also considered the special needs of various pedestrians who would be utilising the space. As such, various tactiles were incorporated into the streetscape to assist the visually impaired.
Durability and longevity were important. So, in addition to choosing robust materials and pavers to complete the work, we applied a seal over the top for protection and colour enhancement.
This was a complex project, requiring liaison with various government departments. It took a team of 12 tradespeople about two (2) months to complete the work. Today, 12 years later, it still looks good.
“Cairns Landscaping Contractors are pleased to work with various government agencies and departments, on assorted projects around Cairns and North Queensland. We’re committed to compliance, quality materials and providing a first class finished product, which not only looks good, but stands the test of time.” Bill Tilley, Cairns Landscaping Contractors.
